Some Short Musings

- My father recently needed to schedule an appointment with my parents' opthalmologist. But, when he called the office, he found out that the number had been disconnected. Why? Dr. Coppeto was arrested in February for possession of over 1000 images of child pornography. A 61 year old man, with five grown children. But appallingly at most, hismaximum sentence would be 7 and a half years in prison. He made an Alford plea (not admitting guilt but conceding a preponderance of damning evidence) to boot.
My point: many criminals get off too easy in this country. I am a very strong proponent of the death penalty; in fact, I believe that it should be applicable to sex crimes as well. Please, Criminal Justice System, take John Mark Carr away from humanity as soon as possible. Even if he didn't kill JonBenet Ramsey, he still deserves a speedy execution date.

- If you do cannot speak properly the official language of the country in which you reside, you do not deserve to be a citizen of said country.
My point: see above

- People who make the same face in nearly every picture in which they appear piss mee off.

- Women who marry death row inmates deserve to be hit upside the head with heavy manufacturing equipment.

- People who drive SUVs do not have the right to complain about global warming or oil prices.

That's all for now.

7 years for kiddie porn is a lot, in fact, i think it's too much.

there is a distinct difference between molestation (which harms other people) and fantasizing about molestation (which harms no one) Obviously making kiddie porn is disgusting, and the people that made it should be put away. but as for those that buy it...sure, supporting it isnt good either, maybe give them a fine or a few months, but theyre not directly hurting anyone.

i say save our federal tax dollars for people that are actual physical threats to the community.

as for the SUV thing, amen.

girls that marry inmates, what can i say, they go for bad asses...

First of all, your sweeping generalizations are insulting- sometimes circumstances are important, tou know.

As far as cracking down on crime does, I do bad things. Given, I don't buy child porn, but I slip into bad and hurtful habits often, and if I did not pull away from them, I might end up doing things that bad. I do not believe that this qualifies me to be put away for a decade, in fact I agree with Emma that it is too harsh. I also agree with her that fantasizing about molestatiion should have a much smaller sentence on it.

You are all nuts, I think. Perversion is the slipperiest of slopes. You don't think that pedophiles start out by collecting images to feed their fantasies? What better a way to keep them from pregressing on to the truly devastating crimes than maximizing their jail sentences? In order for criminals to be deterred, sometimes, the system must make examples of them. Casual attitudes and gross leniency are not going to solve anything.

What a novel idea- Insult your readers. That'll make us come back, for sure.

You amy substitute "completely wrong" for "nuts," if you like. I don't mean to insult, I just feel very strongly about it. Maybe I've seen too much Law & Order SVU, but tha's the way I feel and I can't see any different way. You don't coddle criminals; you punish them.
